Vanquished Hopes

Published by Johnson on

His face inspired hope
And his voice
The dawn of a new life
The promises
The life changing utterances
The formidable candidate

We all wanted change
A life
Forged out of brass
We didn’t care much for the gold

The wind blows like it did
Four years ago
But the dust is more
And the sun
Glaring at us just like it did before
Finding its way through the tattered roof
To illuminate the dark room
As she lays on the floor
Where she was a week ago
And the little ones
Watching helplessly

The noise is increasing
Yet another election
This time, more time
Time that she don’t have
Because her heart is tired
And the moment seems nigh
The voice is receding
And the dust ready to settle
Yet another one lost this week
